In the name of God amen, I Joseph Keffer of Turbot Township; Northumberland County, State of Pennsylvania,
being sick in body, but having still my reason, so that I can make my will, how my worldly
property is to be divided after my death. In the first place command my executors here after
mentioned to bury me decently and in a Christian manner, I will also, that as soon as convenient
after my death my executors make public sale of such loose goods as are now hereafter bequeathed
to my wife Christina, after all my honest debts are paid, I will also, that my said wife shall have the
two front rooms, in we now live, in (hard to read) possession as long as she lives: that she shall
have and take of the house, the tenant shall have viz.: the rooms not excepted for the use of my
wife, I will also, that after my death, my executors shall rent any public venue(venue)? any real
estate, viz.: my farms, to the highest bidder, annually as long as my said wife lives, and my said
wife shall draw one third of the rent as long as she lives, if anything is left, it shall, after her death
be divided by my executors among my children, as I shall hereafter mention them, it is also my will,
that after the death of my wife, my real estate be divided among my four sons, if practicable, if not ,
then all of my property, and what has not been sold after my wife's death, shall be sold at public
sale, and free deeds given by my executors and divided as follows: My sons JOHN, DANIEL,
JOSEPH and PETER shall have equal parts after all has been paid off as already mentioned,
and as shall be mentioned, viz.: seven of my children's children shall have each of them one hundred
dollars in advance, after my wife's death, viz.: three of my deceased son GEORGE"S, One of JACOB'S,
three of Catharine's, as mentioned, each one shall have one hundred dollars, one like the others,
if they live. It is my will, also that I put my confidence in my sons John and Joseph as executors,
that they execute all that is herein mentioned, my clothes, as well as my books, shall not be
sold, the clothes shall after my death be divided among my four sons, and the books, after my
wife's death.
I Joseph Keefer, declare the within as my last will and testament, made on
the twenty ninth day of
December A.D. 1840 that all others preceding this are null and void; all
this I declare with my own hand and seal.
